“Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen where made of things which do not appear”. (Heb 11:3)
“You are an awesome God” I shouted as I looked at the spectacular sight of the range of mountains and the green vegetation that neatly covered them. Soon I sighted some balancing rocks- one on top of the other, and could not resist, but park my car on the roadside so I could take a few photos.
Cape Town is arguably one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It is surrounded by mountains (the Table Mountain, The Lion’s Head, The Twelve Apostles, to the south, the ocean and another range of mountains and some natural game parks on your way to the north.
“How did you make all this?” I asked God as I took off in my car. The Lord answered me in my spirit and said, “through faith my son, through faith.” “You mean to say faith made all this” I asked, and the Lord answered back and said “Yes” as He quickly reminded me of the book of Hebrews chapter 11.
The last part of verse 3 which reads “….so that things which are seen were made out of things which do not appear” is a very interesting portion of scripture. How can this be possible? Is it an indication that God made the world out of nothing as nothing ever existed?
This therefore means that before the events of Genesis chapter 1 verse 1 nothing ever existed except God. This is supported by the revelation given to the Apostle John, “In the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God.” Jn1:1.
Surely God had to use something to create something, what is it that He used? God Almighty used faith. He used faith called Creative Faith to make the heavens and the earth. What is Creative Faith then?
Creative Faith is the power to cause a process or action to begin. “In the very beginning God created the heavens and the earth” Gen 1:1. Creation had to have a specific beginning before several processes could follow. The creation of the heavens and the earth was the origination or initiative stage. The next stage was when God caused things to come into being in a unique way. Again, He used creative faith as He spoke the words “Let there be light, let there be waters ………, let the earth bring forth grass, herb etc.
He intricately planned and orderly developed all things that He created. The unique part of His work is when we look at the arrangement of the creative acts by days. It is interesting to note that the 1st three days match the last three days. Looking at the table below, what was created in the 1st column was in preparation for the creation in the last 3 days illustrated in the 2nd column:
Day 1 God created Light | Day 4 God created Luminaries |
Day 2 God created Sky | Day 5 God created Birds |
Day 3 God created Seas and Land | Day 6 God created Animals & Man |
The climax and masterly of His creation was on day 6 when He created man in His own image. He gave the man whom he created the power to be procreative, not only to reproduce his kind but to create, originate or initiate things. For this reason, God created men with a soul.
The soul is made up of three distinct faculties, the faculty of volition, the faculty of intellect or mind and the faculty of emotion. The mind is men’s powerhouse of reasoning; it is his organ of thought and through thought we create. God then gave men the power to procreate and to make life better. Man had to be innovative and productive. God did not create Adam in the luxury of houses, cars, ships, stoves, fridges etc, even though these things are necessary in human life.
He trusted men and gave him the wisdom to invent these things. He gave men the wisdom to be creative, because he made man in His image, he also gave man the same kind of creative faith that was in him.
We can all be creative, but the problem is that we hardly believe in our God given creative power. Creative faith requires us to believe in our God given ideas. Some of these ideas might look very small and insignificant yet they have the potential to produce great things. I like the question Elisha posed to the woman facing a lawsuit, “What do you have?” 2Kings 4:2.
We can learn from the story of this poor woman whose husband had died leaving her heavily indebted with no possession except what looked like an insignificant small pot of oil. Little did she know that the answer to her problems was this insignificant little pot. It is that pot of oil that brought about a supernatural provision that changed her life as she was able to pay off her debts and live on the rest with her children.
The Wright brothers Orville and Wilbur never stop to amaze me. Orville was a High School drop-out while his brother Wilbur attended High School but never received a diploma. Their story begins with one of the brothers watching a bird fly and got fascinated with the way it used its wings to get airborne, change directions, and increase and decrease its speed. Ideas started flowing into his head and soon he was sharing them with his brother.
It was from the backyard of their bicycle repair shop in Ohio, U.S.A that the two brothers embarked on what looked like some crazy project. They started working on an invention of an airplane even though they had never heard or seen a man- made flying object before.
In the year 1903 the two Wright brothers made history by flying their engine powered airplane known as the Wright Flyer 1. This was followed by the Wright Flyer 11 in 1904 and the much-improved Wright Flyer 111 in 1905.
The story of the brothers having invented a flying machine received negative publicity as sceptics said it could not be done. They were ridiculed and scorned for making such claims, yet this did not discourage them from pursuing their project. They went on to stage some public demonstrations to prove their heroics.
It was in August 1908 that Wilbur catapulted to world fame after a successful flight demonstration in France. Orville followed his brother with a successful flight demonstration in his home soil to the United States Army at Fort Myer in Virginia. Little did anyone ever think of Air Transport that would soon dominate our skies and revolutionize our means of travel.
Through their God given faith the unseen was created. This faith made them to be recorded in World History as the first people to create an aeroplane. Today millions and millions of people and cargo are being transported across lands and seas to various destinations of the world by air. Their names shall never be erased from the face of the earth.
Today I encourage you to exercise your creative faith. Like the Wright brothers, you too can envision and create the unseen.
